Full facial laser skin resurfacing is making a comeback, but without the troublesome treatment parameters (heavy ablation, down time, on-going post procedure patient care) that you may remember from the past. The 2940nm Erbium laser, using a very light ablation (no down time) and multiple procedures, has shown very good results. Cosmetic lasers and medical lasers have made it possible for surgeons to treat conditions which previously were difficult or impossible to treat. In recent years, the main focus of research and development of medical lasers has been on laser hair removal, the treatment of vascular lesions, including spider veins and vision correction. Current research is directed towards non-ablative laser resurfacing, vision correction and improved photodynamic therapy for treatment of skin cancer, and for hair removal.
